Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to clean my windows?

Store fronts and small businesses can usually be done in less than half a day.

For our residential customers, 1 or 2 days depending on the size of the home.

How often should I have my windows cleaned?

At the least, twice a year, inside and out. Glass manufacturers recommend that glass be cleaned at least every three months. If there are smokers inside the house then three or four times a year inside may be necessary.

Will you move items in the windows?

Many treasures we own are priceless. Because some are irreplaceable, we kinkly ask that you move them to a safe place. If for some reason we need to move them we will do it with the greatest care. Please understand that in moving such items we will not be responsible if damage occurs.

Won't my windows get dirty the next time it rains?

The only thing that makes windows dirty is dirt, soot and air pollutants. The glass in time acts like a static magnet for these particles to build up. When it rains, the dirt on the glass will get rearranged, but the rain will not make it dirty.

What about my screens?

We can remove, clean and return the screens to their place when cleaning your windows. This service is provided for an additional small fee.

What about my flowers?

We appreciate the beauty of flowers. We also appreciate how much time it takes to create such beauty in and around your home. We take special care when working in and around flower beds and ornamental shrubs, so as not to disturb them.

Can you clean my windows in the winter time?

Yes we can, so long as the temperature is above 35 degrees. Below that, it will have to wait.

Will cleaning help my fogged windows clear up?

Sorry, but this is not something we can help. This is a situation that often requires that the glass be replaced.

What if a window is broken while they are being cleaned?

Can the cleaning cause scratches?

A professional, experienced window cleaner has tools and equipment designed to prevent any damage to the glass while it is being cleaned.

For a nominal fee, our company offers removal of preexisting minor scratches and abrasions.

What You Need to Know Before Hiring a Window Cleaner

1. Do they have Liability Insurance and can they provide proof of such?

Don't be afraid to ask for a Certificate of Insurance from the window cleaning company which is furnished by their Insurer. This way you will have proof that they are insured.

2. How long have they been in business?

Every business has to start at some time. A person just starting a window cleaning business may have years of experience as an employee of another window cleaning company. Many window cleaners get their start this way.

Feel free to ask about their window cleaning experience and knowledge.

3. Who actually does the cleaning?

Many window cleaning companies are small "mom and pop" businesses with the owner answering the phone, giving the estimate and doing the work.

Then there are large companies with many employees. If you are hiring a large company, it is important to make sure they carry the proper Workman's Comp Insurance to cover any employee who might get hurt by accident while on your property.

The best way to know if the company you are dealing with is large or small is simply to ask.

4. What do they Charge?

Because windows, homes and businesses come in all different shapes and sizes it is impossible to give a flat fee per window over the phone. Each job is different and there are many variables that an experienced window cleaner will take into consideration when giving an estimate.

That is why it is important to find window cleaning companies that offer free estimates and always make sure you get more than one so you will have something to compare.

5. What if you're not happy with the work?

Do they offer a guarantee? Most experienced window cleaners want to avoid a dreaded "call back" so they are meticulous when cleaning your windows the first time.

However, not all call backs can be avoided. A reputable company will offer you a satisfaction guarantee and will do a walk through with the customer upon completing the job to make sure the customer is completely satisfied with the work performed.

6. Do I have to be present while the work is being done?

Having an adult present in the home while the work is being done is always a good rule to follow. It is a protection for the homeowner or tenant as well as the business owner.

It also allows the homeowner or tenant the chance to check the quality of the work that is being performed.

Clean Windows: Health Risk Free

Can hiring Bussards Window Cleaning to clean your windows reduce your health risks?

Well, have you ever done a project yourself and got injured from trying to do it?

Many people do not realize that glass, when broken, can be 10 times sharper than a surgical scalpel.

And, It has been estimated that, over 100 thousand injuries occur each year from the use of ladders and on average 300 of these injuries result in death.

So, if you want clean window with out the risk of life or limb, hire a professional like Bussards Window Cleaning.

Clean Your Own Windows Safely

Cleaning windows can be dangerous for someone untrained and unskilled.

The first and most serious danger is breaking a window and getting cut. When glass breaks, it becomes sharper than a scalpel that a surgeon uses. Just the weight of a small piece of falling glass can cause severe injury.

Broken glass should only be repaired by trained and experienced window glazers.

The second danger in cleaning windows is the risk of falling. Whether standing on a step stool or on a ladder any fall can cause injury. The higher up, the greater the risk.
When it comes to ladders, always follow the 4-to-1 rule. Set ladders 1 foot out to every 4 feet up.
Do not stand on the top 3 rungs of a straight ladder, or the top two steps of a stepladder.
Make sure and follow the safety guides on what ever equipment you use.

Do It Yourself Window Cleaning

There are a few things you should know for the safe treatment of the glass and window seals.

TSP or Trisodium Phosphate is a chemical cleaner that is often used by professional window cleaners. What the inexperienced do not know is that if left to dry on the window, it can damage the glass. Sometimes the damage is beyond repair.

TSP should only be used by experienced professionals.

In current economic conditions, many will be doing their windows themselves.

Vinegar Cleaning Solution is not a good choice for several reasons.

Although you will find it on numerous sites as an all time favorite, it could be a costly mistake.

Use caution where there are rubber seals around the windows. Some rubbers can be prematurely aged by the vinegar. If they should be exposed, make sure and rinse with water right away.

Some things should not be cleaned with vinegar, like marble, which can be damaged by the vinegar.

If you choose to use it anyway...

Use distilled white vinegar and use distilled water for your cleaning solution.

Generally, a 50-50 mix will work best. Use a stronger concentration for grime and stubborn dirt and mineral build up. In the case of mineral build up, a few cleanings may be necessary.

Sun and Wind can both hinder your progress. Try to avoid direct sunlight and avoid cleaning outside on windy days.

Drying the Glass is best done with a squeegee. If you do not have one, then use paper towels, lint free cloth or newspaper. Make sure that you dry the inside and out using the same strokes.

So if you use up and down strokes inside, use the same outside. Otherwise, any streaks will become even more visible.

Make sure to clean up any drips on the window sill with a dry cloth.
